Demonstrators outside bank in Kingston oppose Dakota Access Pipeline

Demonstrators gathered Wednesday afternoon outside the TD Bank branch at Hurley and Washington avenues in Kingston to protest the Dakota Access Pipeline project.

The demonstrators — from the Bard College chapter of the Million Hoodies Movement for Justice, the Black Lives Matter Hudson Valley chapter and Citizen Action of the Hudson Valley — delivered a letter to the bank asking it to divest from the pipeline project, which would bring crude oil from North Dakota’s Bakken region through South Dakota, Iowa and Illinois.

Opponents of the pipeline says a leak could poison the water of the Standing Rock Reservation, which straddles the border of North Dakota and South Dakota.
